Tamala Payne wiped tears from her eyes Thursday morning as she said that all she wants for her son 23-year-old Casey Goodson Jr., who was fatally shot last week by a Franklin County Sheriff s deputy is justice. I’m calling for justice and that’s all I’m calling for, she said. My son was a peaceful man and I want his legacy to continue in peace.
Payne made the statement in advance of planned protests Downtown Friday evening and Saturday over Goodson s death. She and her legal team spoke to local media members Thursday morning and answered questions about the case that has garnered national attention.

A lawyer for Franklin County, Ohio, Sheriff s Deputy Jason Meade says Casey Goodson Jr. pointed a gun at the deputy during the encounter preceding Goodson s killing nearly a week ago.
The statement released Thursday marks the first public comment providing Meade s perspective on Goodson s death, which is the subject of both federal and local investigations. Mr. Goodson pointed his gun at Deputy Meade, according to lawyer Mark Collins. There has been confirmation that our client gave verbal commands for Mr. Goodson to drop the gun.

COLUMBUS, Ohio The mother of Casey Goodson Jr. spoke through tears Thursday – demanding answers from law enforcement and calling the shooting death of her son unjustified.
“We will never be the same. And we still don’t have answers as to why, Tamala Payne told reporters.
Her 23-year-old son Casey Goodson was killed on Dec. 4 after Franklin County Sheriff Deputy Jason Meade opened fire.
