Current board member and former Greater Pine Island Chamber of Commerce Board President Mel Brinson had the honor of presenting the Al Mills Award to Marty and John Kendall of the Calusa Land Trust at the recent chamber dinner, where the award is traditionally given to an outstanding citizen of Pine Island, and in this case, two of them.

Hillsboro Scouts To Honor The Legacy Of Sam Houston The annual Hillsboro Friends of Scouting Dinner will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 8, at the Scout Hut in Hillsboro, located at 915 Corsicana Highway. This year, the scouts will remember local resident Sam Houston s 80-year contribution to scouting. A celebration of Houston’s 80th anniversary in scouting was originally planned for this year s event, but he passed away suddenly Wednesday, March 24. His life and legacy will now be honored at the event. If we can t honor him, we can enjoy and honor the example he left for the youth of Hillsboro, Hill County and Texas, organizers announced.

A legislator from Jacksonville who reached the pinnacle of Boy Scouting as a teen has soared even higher.
C.D. Davidsmeyer, a Republican state representative and assistant Republican leader in the House, has been presented the Outstanding Eagle Scout Award. It is given to Eagle Scouts who have distinguished themselves through public service.
Eagle Scout is the highest rank in Scouting. About 4% of all Scouts attain the designation, including such notable figures as astronaut Neil Armstrong, Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer and former FBI Director Louis Freeh.
Dave was a member of the First Congregational Church of Ridgefield, volunteered on several mission trips including H.O.M.E, Habitat for Humanity and locally repaired homes for Americares. Dave also served as a past Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 431 of Ridgefield
