Hialeah gives out $250 grocery gift cards to help families in need

HIALEAH, Fla. – Rows and rows of cars were lined up early Friday morning for the distribution of 5,000 grocery gift cards worth $250 apiece to Hialeah residents struggling during the coronavirus pandemic.
The distribution began at 8 a.m. at Hialeah Park Racing and Casino (100 E 32nd Street) and is only for Hialeah residents. It is continuing into the afternoon with gift cards still available for people who are eligible.
The gift cards are redeemable at Fresco Y Mas or Sedano’s Supermarket.
“No secret this has been a very difficult year for our communities,” Hialeah Mayor Carlos Hernandez said. “We’ve been working for a week now nonstop around the clock to make sure that we made it efficient and as safe as possible for our residents. We cannot forget that we hit over 13,000 cases yesterday, so we’re at the peak of this thing. We cannot forget that.”
