Wendel Hopeful To Reach 50% Vaccinated By Memorial Day | News, Sports, Jobs

etichy@post-journal.com Chautauqua County Executive PJ Wendel said he’s optimistic 50% of residents can be partially, if not fully, vaccinated from COVID-19 by Memorial Day. The county this week crossed the one-third vaccination mark for those receiving at least one dose. “I’m hoping that by Memorial Day we’re at 50%,” Wendel said of the May 31 holiday. “Obviously, we have boots on the ground working on this. We have to be practical and we have been for the last two months-plus.” If that benchmark is reached, the county executive believes businesses, venues and other events shuttered over the last year can resume as normal.

MAYVILLE The Chautauqua County Office for Aging Services recently partnered with Rite Aid to help senior housing residents in Jamestown receive COVID-19 vaccines. “While all pharmacies have been focused on vaccinating seniors over the last few months, on-site clinics like these bring vaccines to people who need it most, where they are,” said Dr. Mary Ann Spanos, OFAS director. “We were excited to hold a vaccine clinic for senior housing residents in Jamestown,” said Chautauqua County Executive PJ Wendel. “These residents are a priority, because of transportation and computer issues and shared spaces in these buildings. We were pleased to help get these seniors vaccinated as soon as possible.”

Apr 2, 2021 SHERMAN The Heron Farm and Event Center in Sherman was recently recognized for demonstrating exemplary customer service and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. The venue was recognized during the Chautauqua County Legislature’s March 24 meeting for its proactive efforts to adhere to social distancing, face covering and cleaning requirements to keep its customers safe. The business received a certificate of recognition from Chautauqua County Executive PJ Wendel and Legislature Chairman Pierre Chagnon, R-Bemus Point. “The Heron Farm and Event Center was selected for its cleaning and sanitizing protocols in all areas of the business,” said Andrew Nixon, president and CEO of the Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau. “It is wonderful to see the Heron utilizing a business model which encourages social distancing while still providing a great environment for their guests.”
