PORTLAND A physical altercation on Fay Street led to a number of charges against a town resident.
Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies reported that upon their arrival at about 8:56 p.m. Sunday, they learned that Steven A. Scott, 54, of Fay Street allegedly damaged multiple items and pushed another individual to the ground. This incident occurred with a child under 17 years old in the residence.
A further investigation revealed that Scott did violate an order of protection during the incident. Scott was charged with second-degree criminal contempt, two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree harassment.

At around 6:15 p.m. Thursday, Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence in the town for a reported burglary in progress at 545 Kiantone Road. Upon arrival deputies searched the area and were unable to located anyone.
It was found that the residence had been broken into. Further investigation found that David A. Spunaugle, 45, of 1071 Spencer Road had gone in to the residence and was removing items from inside. Spunaugle was taken into custody and charged with third-degree burglary and petit larceny.
On Friday, New York State Police at Jamestown responded to a vacant residence in the town for a report of a suspicious situation. Troopers observed a vehicle parked on the lawn and a subject, later identified as Spunaugle, exited the house.

Sheridan man who reportedly attacked officer charged
SHERIDAN A Sheridan man who reportedly punched and placed a Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputy in a choke hold is facing a host of charges.
The Sheriff’s Office on Thursday announced the arrest of 37-year-old Adam F. Rice on charges of second-degree strangulation, third-degree assault, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and second-degree harassment.
Deputies picked up Rice on a warrant check Thursday at a Route 20 residence in the town of Sheridan. The Sheriff’s Office said Rice allegedly “physically attacked a Sheriff’s Deputy; punching the deputy and by placing the deputy in a choke hold.”

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. A Jamestown man has been charged with burglary in the second degree following an incident in Chautauqua County.
New York State Police were called to a vacant residence in Kiantone on Friday to investigate a suspicious situation.
Upon arrival, troopers observed the residence, saying a vehicle was parked on the lawn and a man, David Spunaugle, 45, was seen leaving the house. Troopers say Spunaugle did not have permission to access the residence and allegedly stole several items from the house.
Troopers, along with the Chautauqua County Sheriff K-9 Unit, searched the residence but did not locate anyone else.
