Rajkot: The Imitation Jewellery Association of Rajkot has demanded separate cluster status from the state government. The office-bearers of the association put their demand before chief minister Vijay Rupani during his visit to Rajkot on Thursday. They demanded allotment of land at the concessional rate for setting up the cluster for all manufacturers.
There are nearly 15,000 production units in Rajkot employing more than five lakh workers.
The association also demanded loan at lower interest rates for the purchase of modern machinery. The imitation industry of Rajkot provides jewellery across India. These units also export imitation jewellery to Gulf countries, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
