Coronavirus: 93 new cases across Tayside as 40 people test positive in Fife Updated: February 1, 2021, 8:15 am © PA There are more than 200 Covid patients in hospitals across Tayside and Fife. The latest update from the Scottish Government shows there are 116 people from Tayside in hospital with a recently confirmed case of the virus and eight receiving intensive care treatment. In Fife, 97 people who have contracted the virus are in hospital and five of them are in the intensive care unit. A further 93 cases of coronavirus have been recorded by NHS Tayside in the past day and 40 people have tested positive in Fife in the same time period.

Fife recorded four deaths, Perth and Kinross and Dundee both recorded one, while four deaths were registered in Angus. The area also saw 89 new cases, down from 122 on Thursday. The new positive cases include 11 in Angus, 21 in Dundee, 25 in Perth and Kinross and 32 in Fife. It comes as Scotland records a further 60 deaths from coronavirus in the past 24 hours. The new figures brings the death toll under this measure – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – to 6,100.

DC Thomson Media is creating up to 20 new journalism jobs as it attempts to “future proof” the business past the Covid-19 pandemic. The Scottish publisher said it is looking to secure a “new and dynamic way forward” at its newspapers The Press and Journal, The Courier, Evening Telegraph and Evening Express by putting “significant” investment into its newsroom transformation programme. The Apollo programme, which has been in the making for 18 months, will see content for each of several main subject areas created by specialist teams with a focus on giving audiences “the content they want, when and how they want it”.

Man punched in Dundee post office after argument over social distancing

Staff at the premises on Albert Street in Stobswell had to contact the emergency services after two men and a woman became embroiled in an argument which left one of the men with a burst lip. Multiple emergency services at Hilltown multi before arrest

Two ambulance crews were called to Bonnethill Court shortly after 1am on Saturday alongside officers from Police Scotland as concerned locals looked on. A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed a 31-year-old man was arrested in connection with an “ongoing investigation into a domestic offence”. © Supplied by Supplied Police and ambulance crews attended before a 31-year-old man was arrested. One resident told the Evening Telegraph that the sight of emergency crews had become “all too familiar” in the area but he had still been “shocked” by the scenes.
