The Zambia Center for Inter-Party Dialogue (ZCID ) has said it is important for electoral stakeholders to hold dialogues on how best the August 12, 2021 elections can be conducted amidst the Covid 19 pandemic.
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS yesterday, ZCID Executive Director Doreen Njovu said Covid 19 has changed the dynamics of the environment on how things operate and elections will also be affected in one way or another.
She said this is the time when all stakeholders should start having conversation on how best the elections can be conducted.
“Right now we can start having conversations around this matter,” she said.
The Drug Enforcement Commission in Lusaka has arrested Seven (7) people who include three (3) University of Zambia (UNZA) third year students for trafficking in over 30 grams of cannabis contrary to Cap 96 of the Laws of Zambia.
The three (3) UNZA students identified as Amadu Bah Mwansa, 22, Siddy Gadjo Mwansa, 22, and Kitonzui Mesala, 24, were found with 12.5 grams of special cannabis and one (1) suspected sachet of heroin.
Others arrested include Neyma Camara, 19, Robinson Chibwe, aged 28, Cloud Kabwe, a bus conductor and Mathias Banda, a bus driver for trafficking in 21.5 grams of cannabis. The four while driving a motor vehicle registration number ALD 5604 Pajero IO, were also picked from UNZA and are believed to be major suppliers of drugs in the area.
Zambia Centre for Interparty Dialogue (ZCID) has called upon the government of Zambia through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to quickly intervene in the case of opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) leader Nevers Mumba, who is detained in a hotel in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In a statement released to the media ZCID said that the government must ensure Dr Nevers Mumbas’ safety is prioritized if there will be need and that the government should also provide the nation with the accurate status of his restriction to avoid unwarranted speculations.
