THE Greatest Show, the Cheltenham Festival, is upon us once more. The horse racing will be ultra competitive, but it is still possible to pick winners and make a profit. Here is one very simple rule to help you find a few winners at decent odds. Finding Winners CONCENTRATE on horses which either won or finished second at last year s festival. That simple rule highlighted six winners last year – Sire Du Berlais 10/1, Politologue 6/1, Concertista 9/2, Champ 4/1, Al Boum Photo 100/30 and Envoi Allen 4/7 – which made a level stake profit of just over four points. Of the 24 beaten horses, nine finished in a place, three at double figure odds, which means that 15 out of 30, or 50 per cent of the horses which finished first or second at the 2019 festival finished in a place last year. That is not a bad base to work from.

Nicky Henderson confirms Altior will miss Cheltenham Festival for a second successive year

FOR a second successive year, trainer Nicky Henderson has confirmed that Altior will miss the Cheltenham Festival.
The Seven Barrows handler has announced today (Monday) that the 11-year-old won t line up in the Queen Mother Champion Chase, which takes place on Wednesday.
It s the second time in as many years that Altior will miss the Champion Chase, having done so last season after he was lame following a splint injury.

The 2018 and 2019 Queen Mother Champion Chase winner, Altior, has been ruled out of going for a third tilt at the race at this week’s Cheltenham Festival.
The 11-year-old’s trainer Nicky Henderson reported today (15 March) that he had returned an unsatisfactory scope after working this morning.
Breaking the news via his Twitter account, Nicky said: “We are very sorry that we have taken the decision not to run Altior in the Champion Chase on Wednesday. He coughed after exercise this morning, which caused us to scope him, and as a result of what we have seen it would not be sensible to run him.
