It was always expected after Microsoft acquired the software code repository GitHub that corporate interests would come first, not the interests of security researchers.
Last week, the software giant
called for feedback on our policy around security research, malware, and exploits on the platform so that the security community can collaborate on GitHub under a clearer set of terms. We want to be more clear about our expectations for keeping GitHub, and the various package registries that call GitHub home, a safe community .

An engineer in the city of Mysore in India claims he has found a way to reduce the carbon footprint of vehicle engines, using a relatively simple process for which he has obtained two US patents.
But despite having written to literally hundreds of companies,
Somender Singh, who has been involved in preparing vehicles to race and take part in rallies in India s limited motorsport events for the last three decades, has not received even a single expression of interest to purchase his technology.

An 81-page document issued by a so-called Ransomware Task Force makes no mention of Windows or Microsoft, apart from the fact that one of the co-chairs who drafted this document is from this company.
This is the best indicator of exactly what
this exercise in verbiage is all about; it is merely another eyewash to divert attention away from the fact that practically all the attacks that have caused the private and public sector enormous grief have been on systems running Windows.

The Australian company behind a password manager that was subjected to a supply chain attack is blaming customers who post its advisories about the attack on social media, claiming this may lead to related attacks.
Adelaide-based
an advisory posted on Wednesday: The number of affected customers is still very low. Only customers that performed In-Place Upgrades between the times stated above are believed to be affected. Customers are requested not to post Click Studios correspondence on Social Media. It is expected that the bad actor is actively monitoring Social Media, looking for information they can use to their advantage, for related attacks.
iTWire Friday, 30 April 2021 09:47 More than 70 firms received CIA malware samples in 2019: Kaspersky sec chief Featured Pixabay
The head of security firm Kaspersky s Global Research and Analysis Team, Costin Raiu, says in 2019 more than 70 security companies were given samples of malware that was created by the CIA.
He did not say anything about who had handed out this malware. His statement came in response to a taunt from the former owner of security firm Immunity, Dave Aitel, who asked him in a tweet Hey @craiu who are the other anti-virus companies that the FSB/SVR dumped the Lambert s code onto?
Lambert is a name that Kaspersky has used in the past to refer to malware that has originated at the CIA. The FSB and SVR are Russian security agencies and Aitel was implying that the same two agencies had given the code to Kaspersky.
