The COVID crisis in India continues to devastate that country. The past 24 hours brought more daily records there, 400,000-plus new cases and nearly 4,000 deaths, all of that a likely undercount. And it comes amid a severe shortage of vaccinations.
Former Minneapolis policeman Derek Chauvin has been found guilty of murder and manslaughter. A panel of six white and six Black or multi-racial jurors convicted him on all three charges Tuesday afternoon. Floyd s death last May ignited a wave of public protests that rocked the nation and Tuesday s verdict set off celebrations outside the courthouse in Minneapolis.

The verdict is in, in the case that riveted the nation, the trial of Derek Chauvin.
The former Minneapolis police officer was found guilty today of killing George Floyd last May. The jury, six whites and six Black or multiracial, deliberated just 10 hours.
Fred de Sam Lazaro:
Frustration over the city s handling was felt at a vigil for Wright last night, marked by emotional moments.
Hundreds then took to the streets for a new round of protests outside the police station. Lines of officers in riot gear kept watch as anger built through the night, hours past curfew.
Protester:
You just killed Daunte Wright. If I make a mistake, are you all going to kill me too?
Fred de Sam Lazaro:
Looters broke into and vandalized a Dollar Tree nearby, while others set off fireworks outside. Police began firing flashbang grenades and tear gas to disperse them. The Minnesota State Patrol said about 40 people were arrested.
In the Derek Chauvin trial Monday, prosecutors wrapped up their case, with jurors hearing testimony from George Floyd's brother about Floyd's character, and his role as a "leader" in the family. Special correspondent Fred De Sam Lazaro reports.
