Skanska lawsuits continue, despite halt by federal court

The two primary law firms working on cases Levin Papantonio Rafferty and Aylstock, Witkin, Kreis & Overholtz PLLC   have filed more than 70 cases in the First Circuit against the construction giant, but those cases are stalled after Skanska filed a federal court filing essentially saying the company had no way of knowing the hurricane would have caused that damage. The filing, called a limitation of liability complaint, aims first and foremost to completely exonerate Skanska from any damages, but if a court finds they are liable for the impact on local businesses and residents, they are aiming for a cap of about $1.2 million in damages to account for the value of the barges.
