U.S. Senate Passes Industrial Policy Bill to Compete with Beijing

The United States Senate has passed a landmark, bipartisan bill to dramatically increase government spending on technological development. The bill, known as the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act, allocates $250 billion to spending in sectors deemed critical to America’s competitiveness against China. It now heads to the House, where it still must be reconciled with a bill authored by more skeptical House representatives. The Wall Street Journal’s John D. McKinnon
The legislation represents a potential landmark effort to turn the tide on several long-term trends in U.S. competitiveness. Those include eroding federal investments in research overall and a shrinking share of the world’s semiconductor manufacturing.

At Manchester Minshull Street Court, Joshua Bowker, prosecuting, said the pair were friends since childhood, but then started a relationship in early summer 2019. Despite early positive signs, a short while into the relationship things turned unpleasant , Mr Bowker said. On a Saturday morning in August, the defendant accused her partner of cheating on him, which she denied. He called her an array of vulgar names , the court heard. The woman then left the property and went to her mother s home. The defendant then phoned her to say he had also left the address but continued to ring her multiple times .

A man waged psychological warfare on his ex-girlfriend after he couldn t accept the fact she had broken up with him.
WBUR announced today that Nate Hegyi is the winner of the 2020 Daniel Schorr Journalism Prize. The winning podcast was produced by the Mountain West News Bureau, a consortium of NPR member stations covering the region where he serves as a reporter.
Nate Hegyi is the winner of the 2020 Daniel Schorr Journalism Prize.
The Schorr Prize is named for the late NPR senior news analyst and veteran Washington journalist Daniel Schorr. Schorr believed in supporting talented young journalists as they rose through the ranks of public radio. The annual $5,000 Prize sponsored by WBUR and Boston University, and funded by Jim and Nancy Bildner salutes a new generation of public radio journalists aged 35 or younger, seeking to inspire them to stretch the boundaries of the medium.
