The past two years have undoubtedly been a strange adventure for students around Summit County as they’ve bounced back and forth between in-person and at-home learning and were forced to forgo many of the social.

Rotary Club announces winners of annual short story and poetry contests

The Rotary Club of Summit County has announced the winners of is annual high school short story and poetry contests, which are designed to encourage creative literacy among students. The prizes for first, second and third places were $250, $150 and $100, respectively. Short story contest Maggie Butler, home-school student, “The Thought of Plummeting from an Impossible Height” Poetry contest Sam Burke, Snowy Peaks, “Mascne” and Maleena Mero, Summit High School, “Waves” (tie) Maggie Butler, home-school student, “Sisyphus” A special poetry award also was given to students in Karin Mitchell’s ninth grade class including Logan Charles, TJ Clawson, Sammy Crawford, Grace Gibson, Tarn Ihnken, Scarlet Neustaedter, Jacob Singleton and Sienna Sussman for “So much depends upon … ,” which was inspired by William Carlos Williams’ poem “The Red Wheelbarrow.”

Summit sophomore keeps undefeated season alive at Rangeview meet

Photo by Joel Wexler / Rocky Mountain.Photography Summit High School track and field team sophomore Dom Remeikis kept his undefeated season alive Saturday, May 22 at the Rangeview Meet in Aurora, winning the 1,600 and 800 meters. Remeikis won the 1,600 meters with a time of 4 minutes and 32.92 seconds, ahead of fellow sophomore Zach McBride’s fourth-place time of 4:58.29. Tigers senior Sam Burke finished in seventh with a time of 5:02.32, adding a third team member to the top 10 in the mile run. Remeikis won the 800 meters with a time of 2:05.43. Saturday’s meet at Aurora Stadium did not finish in totality, the final events were postponed until Monday due to weather. As a result, team results were not available as of Saturday.
