Kelly Lynn and Alison Petrone to compete in runoff

Kyle Phillips The Transcript Incumbent Alison Petrone will face candidate Kelly Lynn in a runoff race after no Ward 3 candidate captured a majority of the vote. Petrone received 40.37% of the vote, while Lynn received 30.22% of the vote. Candidate Sam Talley, who will not go to the runoff, received 29.41% of the vote. A candidate must receive at least 50 + 1% of the vote to win outright. Petrone said Tuesday that she was grateful for Talley’s integrity and focus on the issues throughout the campaign, and that she is “confident that he will continue to serve our city in various roles going forward.”

The following is a summary of their answers to several questions. Ward 1 Brandi Studley’s first priority is transportation, especially a plan to help those who live in a food desert where a bus stop is not close to a grocery store, she said. While Studley said she has been speaking with Ward 7 Councilor Stephen Holman about the city’s transportation plan, she did not specify a plan to pay for a stop in the area.

OU Student Government Association hosts Norman City Council debates ahead of municipal elections

OU’s Student Government Association held a forum for Norman City Council candidates on Friday night via Zoom.  The session was divided into five wards, which were each alloted 20 minutes to answer questions submitted by students through a form emailed to OU students by OU SGA.  Early voting in municipal elections begins Feb. 4 and ends Feb. 5, with election day scheduled for Feb. 9. Ward 1 Candidate Brandi Studley has lived in Norman since Kindergarten and graduated from Norman High School in 1996. She said she is engaged in the community as founder of the Social Injustice League of Norman and volunteers to feed the homeless in Norman on weeknights.
