In an entertaining and lengthy profile in the New York Times Magazine, Sam Anderson looks at Kevin Durant, the man more than the player, but also the alchemist, so to speak, in the NBA’s new player-driven era. Durant is more than just the best player in the world right now, argues Anderson.
For the Times writer, he’s a special person with a special history and one at the center of what Anderson calls “the wildest drama in basketball: a radical experiment in Brooklyn, where the once-hapless Nets have transformed themselves into a superteam around K.D. and his friends.” In fact, Anderson calls the Nets “(Possibly) the Greatest Basketball Team of All Time.” But Durant is his main focus.

Weekly US rail volumes rebound from prior week
U.S. rail traffic recovered last week from the prior week’s dip in volumes, according to data from the Association of American Railroads (AAR).
U.S. rail volumes totaled 533,872 carloads and intermodal units for the week ending last Saturday. That total is 2% higher than the prior week and 28.3% higher than the same period in 2020. The double-digit percentage increase reflects the volume downturn that occurred last year at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in North America.

Fans flock to sold-out Friday Cheers
Friday Cheers returns in Richmond By A.J. Nwoko | May 7, 2021 at 11:30 PM EDT - Updated May 7 at 11:32 PM
RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - It’s the experience Richmonders have literally been waiting more than a year for - Friday Cheers is back. Friday’s storms couldn’t keep the live concert from making its triumphant return after a year-long hiatus.
“We’re ready for some live music,” Georgia Farmer said.
This is the first concert since the pandemic canceled the 2020 live shows.
As soon as the storms passed, the lines to get in started stretching. Neither restrictions nor the threat of bad weather could keep these concert die-hards away from this sold-out show.
