The University of Wisconsin â Green Bay will host the 2021 WIAA State Softball Tournament at newly-constructed King Park, the University and WIAA announced on Monday. UW-Green Bay and Green Bay Athletics will host 15 total games on June 28-30, including all five state championship games.
The single elimination tournament features five divisions. Eight teams qualify in Division 1 and four each in Divisions 2, 3, 4 and 5. All teams are seeded in each of the divisional brackets.
âWe are both thrilled and appreciative to be hosting the WIAA State Softball Tournament this summer,â said UW-Green Bay Chancellor Michael Alexander. âThis event will welcome fans from throughout the state of Wisconsin, showcasing our beautiful campus and the brand-new King Park.â
The Mountain Home High School junior varsity softball team ended up with a split Saturday as they played two games at Valley View High School in Jonesboro.
The J.V. Lady Bombers began the day by beating Greene County Tech 4-1. Reagan Hasselwander went two-for-two with a walk, Katelyn Hill was one-for-three with two RBIs, Tori Robb and Mattie Belk each went one-for-two, and Gracie Uchtman was one-for-three.
Mountain Home did not fare as well in the second game as they fell to Valley View 12-3. Uchtman drove in two runs for the J.V. Lady Bombers, Marcie Cudworth was able to bunt Belk home and reach on an error in the third inning, and Belk and Olivia Crabb each went one-for-two.
Baseball and softball make up the local Thursday schedule.
After Wednesday’s rainout, the start of the 2A-1 District Baseball Tournament was pushed back a day at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison. At 4 p.m., Cotter faces Decatur, and Yellville-Summit takes on Alpena. The winners play Flippin and Life Way Christian in the semifinals at 7.
Two local baseball teams will square off in the semifinals of the 2A-2 District Tournament. Salem and Melbourne are scheduled for a 6 p.m. first pitch.
Bergman is scheduled to have home field advantage for its first game in the 3A-1 District Tournament. Action is scheduled for 5 p.m.
