At least 57 people in Texas, including three in the San Antonio area, died due to last month’s catastrophic winter storm, according to preliminary data released Monday by the state s health department.
Hypothermia accounted for the majority of storm-related deaths, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. The agency also recorded deaths from vehicle accidents, carbon monoxide poisoning, medical equipment failure, falls and fire.

An appeals court has dealt another legal blow to San Antonio s long-delayed ordinance guaranteeing paid sick time for workers. In a victory for business groups, the Texas 4th Court of Appeals on Wednesday blocked the city from implementing the rule while it s contested in court. The three-judge panel agreed with a lower court s judgment that the rule is preempted by Texas existing minimum wage law.

Bexar County will offer up to $1,500 for plumbing repairs in new phase of assistance program Posted By Jay Moreno on Mon, Mar 8, 2021 at 3:57 PM click to enlarge Sanford Nowlin Over the weekend, Bexar County launched the second phase of a program created to aid residents who need plumbing repairs in the wake of last month s catastrophic winter storms.
Under the initiative, the county will dispatch a plumber and pay up to $1,500 towards parts and labor for repairs brought on by the freeze.
Those in the county s suburban and outlying areas are more likely to face difficulty in getting a plumber due to their remote locations, according to Bexar County officials. In the past two weeks, the county has distributed more than 40,000 cases of water to people in affected areas.
