THE Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has finally identified three names who will take part in the special Gilas Pilipinas round of the upcoming PBA Rookie Draft, namely Jaydee Tungcab, Jordan Heading, and Tzaddy Rangel.
Amid the fanfare, the names of Calvin Oftana and William Navarro were conspicuous by their absence from the Gilas list.

The two, who were part of the last two national team training camps, were expected to be shoo-ins for the next wave of players to be officially added to the Gilas stable after their performances in the 2021 Fiba Asia Cup qualifiers last November in Manama.
“LA VIBE!!!” the 25-year-old Bolick quipped.
“Great catching up on your quick stop in LA. Look(ing) forward to seeing you back on the court,” said the 43-year-old Alapag, who moved to US for good last year to continue his budding coaching career.
Bolick sustained an ACL tear in his right knee during the Governor’s Cup 2019 and immediately underwent surgery. He was sidelined for 10 months.
The three-time NCAA champion from San Beda missed the PBA Philippine Cup bubble as the Batang Pier decided not to include him in the lineup as a precaution.
Without Bolick, NorthPort crashed out early of the bubble conference with a dismal 1-10 win-loss record.

After four seasons with the team, Blackwater has opted to let go of former top pick Mac Belo as it shipped the onetime Far Eastern University star to the Meralco Bolts Tuesday in a one-on-one trade.
A reliable source confirmed that the 6-foot-4 Belo, the No. 1 pick of the Elite in a ‘special’ Rookie Draft on Gilas Pilipinas cadet players, was sent to Meralco for point guard Baser Amer.
The trade papers had been forwarded to the PBA Commissioner’s Office for approval of the five-man trade committee headed by league Deputy Commissioner Eric Castro.
ANOTHER former PBA top draft pick is on the move.
Mac Belo is being dealt by Blackwater to Meralco in exchange for starting point guard Baser Amer in a one-on-one trade agreed upon by the two teams on Tuesday.
Trade papers had already been submitted for approval to the Commissioner’s Office.
The transaction came on the same day the league approved the San Miguel-Terrafirma trade that sent 2018 No. 1 overall pick CJ Perez to the Beermen for Matt Ganuelas-Rosser, Russel Escoto, Gelo Alolino, and two first-round picks in 2021 and 2022.
