A man was arrested after an attack against an Asian woman outside a New York City restaurant on Memorial Day.
Alexander Wright, 48, was charged with assault, assault as a hate crime and criminal possession of a controlled substance after the unprovoked attack was caught on camera, according to the New York City Police Department.
The suspect approached a 55-year-old woman and punched her in the face, causing her to fall to the ground, according to video shared on Twitter by Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou, whose district includes Chinatown. The woman was taken to a hospital in stable condition, police said.

Several bystanders rushed to help a lone San Francisco police officer who was being attacked by a suspect on Friday, according to the San Francisco Police Department and video of the incident.
The officer, who wasn’t named but who police identified as an Asian female, was responding to a call about a person making threats, according to a statement from the SFPD
on Monday.
When the officer arrived, she made contact with the male suspect and was attempting to detain him when he attacked her, according to surveillance video that the San Francisco Police Officers Association says captured the incident. The union tweeted the video.

Video from surveillance cameras shows a man violently attacking an Asian female police officer in San Francisco s Chinatown Friday night.
The attacker, who has since been identified as Geraldo Contreras, had allegedly been standing on the street corner near Clay and Kearny Streets just before 7 p.m. on Friday. Witnesses reportedly saw him vandalizing rental scooters and shouting threats at passersby. One witness reported hearing Contreras yell Chinese people don t belong here. The officer who arrived on the scene was responding to calls of a drunk and disheveled man making threats.
