As time flew by, the bobcat slowly began to regain its strength thanks to the careful treatment by SDHS veterinarians. For weeks, the cat’s jaw was stabilized with wiring and sutures as she recovered.
Eventually, the feline went from eating a soft diet, to chopped foods and eventually to solid foods and ultimately her natural prey diet – a sign of victory for the medical staff who helped treat the pregnant cat.
“This case was extra special, since we learned during her initial ultrasound that she was expecting kittens,” Christine Barton, director of operations and wildlife rehabilitation at San Diego Humane Society’s Ramona Wildlife Center, said in a statement. “We’ve been like a protective extended family, preserving not one, but three lives! We are happy that she and her unborn kittens can resume their role as apex predators here in San Diego County.”

CALIFORNIA Creatures, great and small, in California, we love them all. Animals from all over the Golden State made headlines in 2020, and Patch has curated some of the year s most adorable, interesting and heartwarming stories.
The San Diego Zoo welcomed an endangered pygmy hippopotamus and performed cataract surgery on a gorilla. The Oakland Zoo treated mountain lion cubs rescued from a wildfire. A stolen lemur was found and returned to the San Francisco Zoo.
Lending a helping hand, San Diego Zoo Global researchers stationed in the Land Down Under provided relief for koalas whose homes were devastated in the blaze. One member of their koala search and recovery team was Smudge, an adorable pooch who had a nose for sniffing out the marsupials.
Smudge used his remarkable sense of scent to aid his human counterparts in locating koalas, who were then rescued from the fires and placed into safety.
