US Senate Candidate Speaks Out Against County Supervisors Siding With Trump Administration

This Wednesday, California U.S. Senate candidate Kevin de Leon made a stop in San Diego as part of his statewide campaign tour.
During a media briefing held at Chicano Park, de Leon gave an address focused on immigration-related topics and a federal lawsuit from the presidential administration against California laws.
“Immigrant families, like mine, who still live right here deserve a shot at the American dream just like past generations of immigrants who have come to this country and have made it great,” de Leon opened.

California State Treasurer Fiona Ma announced that she has appointed longtime debt management director Lakshmi Kommi of San Diego to the California Debt and Investment Advisory Commission (CDIAC).
Treasurer Ma is the Chair of CDIAC, which is the State’s clearinghouse for public debt issuance information. It assists state and local agencies with the monitoring, issuance and management of public debt. CDIAC is also responsible for improving the practice of public finance in California by providing responsive and reliable information, education, and guidance to state and local public agencies and other public finance professionals.
“Lakshmi has more than 25 years of experience in municipal finance in the issuer capacity,” said Treasurer Ma. “The State is lucky to have someone of her experience step into this role as a Commissioner.”
Sandy Naranjo has been named as the newest Port commissioner to represent National City.
Naranjo was sworn in on Jan. 3 via a virtual ceremony by her sister, Susan Naranjo, who was deputized by Port Clerk Donna Morales to administer the oath of office.
“On behalf of the Board of Port Commissioners, I welcome Sandy Naranjo and look forward to her perspective and expertise,” said Chair Ann Moore, Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners. “(Naranjo) brings a diverse background, a strong presence and an active voice to represent National City and all Californians. She will be a true asset to the Board as we move forward with an exciting yet challenging year ahead.”

From Shirley Weber’s Facebook post: “It was an honor and privilege to be sworn in today to serve another term as an assemblymember of the 79th district by Judge Randa Trapp. We face many difficult challenges in the 2021-2022 legislative session, some exacerbated by the ongoing pandemic, others are longstanding issues. I look forward to continuing the work.” That was on Dec. 7. Fifteen days later, on Dec. 22, hours after appointing California Secretary of State Alex Padilla to fill the Senate seat of now Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced he was appointing Weber to fill Padilla’s seat in a move to pacify the Black community that had demanded a Black woman be appointed to replace Harris.
