A new cable manufacturing facility in east Milton is slated to provide cables for sustainable energy operations throughout the United States, signaling Santa Rosa County s growing economic and industrial footprint and employing dozens of residents from the tri-county area.
Gulf Cable, a global company that manufactures aluminum and copper insulated cables for use in mass utility projects, already has a massive plant in the Santa Rosa Industrial Park where it employs slightly more than 300 people.
Officials broke ground Tuesday morning on the site of a new 160,000-square-foot building just a stone s throw from the existing facility that will expand on that facility s operations and focus exclusively on providing cables for sustainable energy operations throughout the U.S.

In the meantime, drivers trying to skirt the congestion on U.S. 98 have been driving through the Tiger Point area, often at a high rate of speed and driving aggressively in the residential neighborhoods, according to Wright.
The measure approved at Tuesday s County Commission meeting allots $10,500 to hire off-duty Santa Rosa County Sheriff s Office deputies to patrol Tiger Point at peak traffic times. The deputies will conduct traffic patrols on weekday mornings between 6 and 10 a.m., weekday afternoons between 2 and 7 p.m. and Saturdays between noon and 8 p.m. from now until May 31. That s the date that has been set for the Three Mile Bridge to be open to some limited traffic and the point where some of the traffic going to Garcon Point will be diverted back to going the shorter route to Pensacola, Wright said.
While we applaud the Santa Rosa County Commission’s desire to improve and expand infrastructure, we simply can’t buy into the argument that new homes are not generating enough revenue to cover the costs of services they receive.
Let’s start with the basis for calculating property taxes. We know that because Florida voters incorporated the Save Our Homes amendment into the state constitution in 1995, the assessed value of homesteaded properties cannot increase year-over-year by more than 3 percent or the Consumer Price Index (CPI), whichever is less. In 2020, the CPI was 1.4 percent.
The reason this matters is that new homes typically go on the tax rolls at a higher assessed value than existing homes whose assessed value has been capped by Save Our Homes. The reality is that new homes are “paying their own way” much more so than existing homes. Mr. Schebler inadvertently proves my point on this when he stated, “Santa Rosa County has reduced the millage rate twice in 30 y
