Rick Chavez Zbur is running to represent AD50 in the state assembly
While the election to represent California’s 50th Assembly District is still 18 months away, the race is already heating up with candidate Rick Chavez Zbur clinching an influential endorsement from U.S. Senator Alex Padilla.
AD50 has been represented by Richard Bloom since 2012, who previously served on Santa Monica City Council for 13 years. In January, Bloom announced that he is running for the L.A. County Board of Supervisors in 2022, freeing up his assembly seat for a political newcomer.

SANTA MONICA Members of the Santa Monica City Council discussed the possibility of turning Reed Park into an off-leash dog park during Tuesday, April 27’s city council meeting. The idea was first brought up several years ago by the city council.
According to councilmember Phil Brock, the idea was brought up because there are not many parks near Santa Monica where dogs can roam free. There are currently four off leash dog parks in Santa Monica that includes: Airport Park Dog Park, Herb Katz Dog Park, Pacific Street Dog Park and Memorial Park Dog Run.
Mayor Sue Himmelrich indicated there were questions if there was space and if the city was financially capable of making it happen. Another issued discussed during the meeting was Reed Park currently serving as a housing site for the homeless. Franklin Park is also being considered as an alternative as suggested by councilmember Gleam Davis. One resident sent the email to the city council responding to the notion
Natalia Lazarus honored for 25 years of opening doors in Hollywood for immigrants

Natalia Lazarus, multi-talented actress, director and teacher, has received a commendation from City Council honoring 25 years of helping international students break into the entertainment industry through her conservatory program.
Lazarus, who originally hails from Honduras, was able to find success in Hollywood through a combination of talent, tenacity, and educational opportunity. Knowing there were many immigrants striving and struggling to do the same, she co-founded the Los Angeles Performing Arts Conservatory in 1996 to train aspiring international artists.

SANTA MONICA The Santa Monica City Council on Tuesday, April 27 approved changes to Santa Monica’s Boards, Commissions and Task Forces to heighten effectiveness, attract diverse representation from the community and to align Board and Commission activities with departmental workplans.
According to a news release from Constance Farrell, Public Information Officer for the city of Santa Monica, the adopted changes are the result of a Community Working Group which spent the past year reviewing the bylaws and purview of Santa Monica’s advisory bodies and formulating recommendations, which the city council considered as it approved changes. They will weigh in on streamlining some advisory bodies to increase effectiveness at a meeting during a later date.
