There was another deadly shooting in Belize City last night and police are preparing for what they believe will be a series of retaliatory attacks. It’s the latest in an ongoing flare up of gang warfare that continues to go unchecked. Around eight-thirty on Wednesday night, officers were called out to the scene of a homicide on Santa Barbara Street. The victim was a familiar face due to his involvement in gang activity. News Five’s Isani Cayetano visited the location and spoke with the investigating officers. Here’s that report.

There was another shooting incident in Belize City on Tuesday night that landed Justin Richards in the hospital with gunshot wounds to his body. The Santa Barbara Street resident was just a stone’s throw away from his home and was returning from a nearby shop when a hooded gunman pounced on him. Richards, known to many as Owl, was shot twice, including a gunshot wound to his side. His attacker then escaped towards Ebony Street in the direction of Central American Boulevard. News Five spoke with Richards’ sister this morning. While she declined an interview, she informed us that her brother remained in an unconscious state at the K.H.M.H. and was scheduled to undergo a surgery. The incident took place around eight-thirty p.m. and officers responding to the scene recovered several expended shells from the area. 33-year-old Justin Richards, a resident of Santa Barbara Street in Belize City, is hospitalized at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital following an attack on his life. Police reports say that at around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, he was headed home from a shop when a male person approached him. The person, who was wearing a hooded shirt, drew a firearm and fired multiple times in Richards’s direction. He sustained two gunshot wounds to the body before the gunman escaped toward Central American Boulevard.
Richards was transported to the hospital where he was treated and stabilized. Police have not yet determined a motive nor have they made any arrests but continue their investigations.

Proposed Santa Barbara police station can be viewed with modern animation
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A modern design feature is being used to show the public what the new proposed Santa Barbara Police station could look like if it is approved in downtown.
Animation that moves a viewer through images of the existing site with the police station in place, is now available.
The police headquarters video is an alternative to the option where story poles would be placed at the site. These are wooden pieces at the height and size of the planned project, to give the public a feel for what it will look like, and how it will fit in to the existing block at the corner of Santa Barbara Street and Cota Street.
