WITH the exception of a few Nigerians, including fellow crew members familiar with his health status, most of the Nigerians and non-Nigerians who have watched the 2020 blockbuster Nollywood movie, Citation, would not have realised what pain the veteran actor, Sadiq Abubakar Daba, underwent while featuring in the movie. According to movie producer, Kunle Afolayan, Daba actually had an oxygen machine close by as he played his alloted role in the movie, understandably a cameo appearance. Daba’s passion for theatre and the arts was exemplary. Although he had been away from the limelight for years, Daba did not fail to deliver when he was called upon to feature in the 2014 Nollywood blockbuster, October 1. He in fact won the 2015 Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as Inspector Waziri in the movie.

The premiere of ‘Eagle Wings’, Nigeria’s first military-themed movie was held at the Blue pictures cinema, Lagos City Mall on Sunday.
The film, which is a collaboration between the
Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) and the Nigerian Airforce, tells the story of how the military combats insecurity with officers risking their lives to protect the nation.
‘Eagle Wings’ follows the story of an Air Force Fighter pilot who must navigate his way to safety amid an insurgency.
Directed and produced by Paul Apel Papel, a Colorado Film School-trained filmmaker, ‘Eagle Wings’ features world-class cameras and shooting devices suitable for cinema production.

This was how it used to be like back then: Nigerian Television Authorityâs estimated 30 million viewers would hear Bongos Ikwueâs sonorous voice and know that it was time for Cockcrow at Dawn. That voice, which was accompanied by the strum of his guitar, had the effect of a pheromone on families across Nigeria, keeping them glued to their television sets.
Cockcrow at Dawn â which shared the same title as its music â used to feature many colourful characters, among whom was Bitrus. And the character Bitrus â played by Abubakar Sadiq Daba who died on Wednesday, March 3 â had remained evergreen in the television audienceâs memory.

Preliminary reports never stated the cause of his death but in new development, as sighted on Instabog9ja, it’s revealed that the later actor and broadcaster died after a long battle with leukemia and prostate cancer. His death has been confirmed by filmmaker Kunle Afolayan.
Afolayan said he spoke with his wife and son who confirmed his passing to him. Many Nigerians including billionaire Femi Otedola donated money for his treatment abroad and gave out-pouring support on social media.
