This is the City Talk column by longtime Savannah Morning News contributor Bill Dawers.
The pandemic has obviously taken a toll on the local economy, but some important construction projects have continued, including several in the Bull Street corridor between Forsyth Park and Victory Drive.
Bull Street is Savannah’s “civic spine,” a term I first heard used by architect Christian Sottile. The combination of businesses, houses of worship, schools, nonprofits, governmental buildings and homes reflects the rich history of the Thomas Square neighborhood.
Vaccinations for Phase 1A+ started Monday at the Chatham County Health Department. Officials at the Coastal Health District said the response from people has been so overwhelming that they are temporarily holding off scheduling more appointments. The line was nearly to the street for those eager to get their vaccine. "I'm Shocked to see this big long line because this morning there was only like four people in line to get the shot," said one.
RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) These deliveries didn t come from Santa, but they for sure have been on many Americans wish list. It was super exciting, Ryah Koprowski, a hospital social worker, told ABC11 about receiving the first dose of the Pfizer COVID19 vaccine. It went really smoothly and the process was easy.
At least 25,000 North Carolinians like Koprowski have gotten the shot, and tens of thousands of doses of both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are arriving at hospitals and local health departments in all of the state s 100 counties. It s definitely a big bounce, Koprowski said. A lot of hope this is going to come to an end. I m not taking my mask off and will not stop social distancing not now and not after the second shot but every person vaccinated is one step closer to the end.

In a parking lot near the one in which she organized the area s first drive-through COVID-19 testing site more than eight months earlier, Chatham County nurse manager Tammi Brown received the COVID vaccine Tuesday. We re just thrilled that the vaccine is here, Brown said before a ceremony at the Chatham County Health Department attended by Gov. Brian Kemp and Georgia Commissioner of Health Dr. Kathleen Toomey. And we re thrilled to be a part of it. Especially so early in the process.
The eight-county Coastal Health District received the first of Georgia s allotment of the Pfizer COVID vaccine Monday, getting nearly 6,000 doses to distribute. The district stored about 4,000 of them in ultra-low-temperature freezers at the Chatham County Health Department. The remainder went to Brunswick.
