Oath Keepers Chief Spreads Disinformation At The Border

Image from: David Neiwert “I want to say a few things before they send me off to a gulag,” Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes told the audience at a right-wing anti-immigration rally in Texas this week obviously still looking over his shoulder as federal prosecutors continue to circle in an ever-tightening pattern around Rhodes’ role as a participant in the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Rhodes’ admission was of the self-martyring kind. But by speaking at a Laredo rally intended to bolster the hollow right-wing rhetoric about a faux “crisis” at the U.S. Mexico border, he demonstrated how far-right disinformation campaigns in this case, around both the Capitol insurrection and border immigration issues frequently overlap and commingle. It’s all one big stew of lies.

Oath Keepers Founder Stewart Rhodes Hangs With GOP Big Shots At Border Rally

April 1, 2021 12:54 p.m. The founder of the Oath Keepers popped up at a rally near the U.S.-Mexico border last week, sharing the roster with Texas Republican Party Chairman Allen West and other Republican politicians.  Stewart Rhodes has not been charged with anything related to the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, but he acknowledged some heat from law enforcement during his remarks, which were reported by The Daily Beast Wednesday.  “I may go to jail soon,” Rhodes said. “Not for anything I actually did, but for made-up crimes.”  As the list lengthens of Oath Keepers and Proud Boys facing serious prison time for their alleged involvement in the Capitol attack, prosecutors have made clear that they’re aware of Rhodes’ actions that day, too.

Can Biden Finally Get Immigration Reform Passed?

In the first hundred days of his presidency, Joe Biden stepped right onto a third rail immigration reform. On day one he unveiled the U.S. Citizenship Act, sponsored by Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.) in the House and Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) in the Senate, a comprehensive, 353-page immigration reform bill. Then in mid-March the House passed two stand-alone pieces of legislation extracted from the Biden bill. The American Dream and Promise Act creates legal protections from deportation and a path to citizenship for some 4 million individuals Dreamers–who entered the U.S. as children without documents. The Farm Workforce Modernization Act creates a way for farmworkers to get protected status and streamlines the green card process.
