Jun 03, 2021 03:33:28 PM The University of the South Pacific deputy pro-chancellor Pat Walsh will lead the process of formalising the new contract of vice-chancellor Pal Ahluwalia. Walsh will lead the process of formalising the new contract of Ahluwalia at a special executive committee meeting which is expected to happen soon. This comes after the University of the South Pacific Council reappointed Ahluwalia as the vice-chancellor in their meeting last week. The council said Ahluwaliawill be offered a three-year term with a subsequent option for a two-year extension. “The operations of the vice-chancellor’s work arrangement including location outside of the Laucala Campus will be monitored for feasibility and practicality.”
May 25, 2021 07:50:17 PM The University of the South Pacific Council has reinstated Professor Pal Ahluwalia as vice-chancellor, three months after he was deported from Fiji. A council member who wishes to remain anonymous said Prof Ahluwalia has been reinstated and they have agreed for him to relocate to Samoa. “We discussed his contract, agreed for him to be reinstated and for him to be relocated to Samoa. The government of Samoa has agreed to host him,” he said. Majority of the regional institution s member countries voted in favour for Prof Ahluwalia to be reinstated as the vice-chancellor. The meeting has been adjourned to next Wednesday and the university will then issue an official statement on the outcomes.
