While Double Dutch was originally brought to this country by Dutch immigrants, that’s not who made the game popular. That honor goes to Black America.
The jump roping game which involves two people twirling ropes simultaneously as at least one person jumps in rhythm could be seen in classic African American movies and even in hip-hop music videos in the 80s. From national championship tournaments to former First Lady Michelle Obama jumping on the lawn of the White House in 2011, it’s clear that Double Dutch has become a cultural phenomenon reaching far beyond the New York City block parties where it was made popular.
Investigation continues into cause of vehicle v. bicycle crash on Dougherty Road

New York Jets assistant coach Greg Knapp died on Thursday from injuries sustained five days earlier in San Ramon when his bicycle and a vehicle collided while traveling on Dougherty Road. He was 58.
Knapp, an NFL assistant coach for 26 years including previous stints as offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers and then-Oakland Raiders, never regained consciousness after the impact of the crash on Saturday afternoon, according to his family. His wife, three daughters, mother and brother were by his side when he died at a Walnut Creek hospital just after 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

Knapp served as Peyton Manning s QBs coach from 2013-15 after Adam Gase was promoted to offensive coordinator, and presided over the MVP s record-setting 2013 performance. Manning threw for 5,477 yards and 55 touchdowns in Knapp s first year coaching him, which are still NFL records.

In his four years as our quarterbacks coach, Greg was an instrumental part of two Super Bowl appearances and our championship run in 2015. The job he did coaching quarterbacks during our Super Bowl 50 season was masterful. He navigated a unique situation with poise and instincts, keeping us on track with his even-keeled demeanor, exceptional teaching ability and caring nature.
