The Vezerkepzo GM tournament was held from May 13 to 21 in Budapest, Hungary. Taking part was 12-year-old Abhimanyu Mishra, on a quest to become the youngest grandmaster in history. Abhi was rated 2478 on live ratings and had two GM norms already. He needs the third norm – together with a total of 22 rating points – to receive the title. This was his next opportunity.
The tournament started well enough, with Abhimanyu dutifully winning his first game. In the second round he faced GM Gabor Nagy, rated 2518. Adhi had black and went for the Queen s Gambit Declined without Nc3. After 25 moves the following position arose:

Preliminaries - Day 1
The Meltwater Champions Chess Tour is the successor to the Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour. It consists of 10 events taking place over 10 months, with the prize fund rising from $1 million to $1.5 million. Six Regular tournaments, three Majors and the Finals are taking place from November 2020 until September 2021.
The preliminary stage is a 16-player all-play-all tournament, with five rounds played per day on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
In the knockout stage, each encounter will be decided over two days. On day 1, there will be four rapid games, and if the match ends 2-2 it will simply be a draw (there doesn’t have to be a winner). On day 2, another 4-game match will be held. If both matches are drawn, or the players have traded wins, then shortly after the second match there will be a playoff: two blitz games followed, if needed, by Armageddon.

A chess powerhouse
The Candidates Tournament will resume a bit over a week from today, with the two highest-rated Chinese players in the world ready to get back into the fray in Yekaterinburg. While Ding Liren (world #3) did not have a good first half, Wang Hao (world #12) is still well within range to catch up with the leaders.
Having two players from China in the eight-player field should not catch anyone by surprise, as the Asian country has greatly developed his chess stars in the last two decades or so although most likely the results began to show only after a period of deliberate attempts to rise the status of the sport in the country.
NEW DELHI: The second-largest real estate sector initial public offering (IPO) in India opened on Wednesday. Macrotech Developers aims to raise Rs 2,500 crore via the issue, mostly to pay off part of its debt.
Analysts are mixed on the issue with some counting superior return ratios as positives while others raising questions over its huge debt and negative cash flow. The grey market premium for the issue has also vanished.
“We also expect listing gains will be very limited in this IPO. We also have some investment concerns for the IPO, with the firm having a net debt of Rs 16,700 crore as of December 2020, any downturn in industry may affect the company significantly,” said Yash Gupta, Equity Research Associate, Angel Broking.
