DUBAI: The esteem in which British trainer Charlie Fellowes holds Prince of Arran is clear in every word he utters about his popular eight-year-old horse.
“My fella, he’s old, he’s clever, he looks after himself,” said Fellowes. “The reason he’s probably as good as he has ever been, aged eight, is because he has always looked after himself. And it’s also why he finished second and third so many times, because he only ever does as much as he has to.”
The champion racehorse is back in Riyadh for the second running of the Saudi Cup, competing in the $2.5 million Red Sea Turf Handicap over 3000m on Saturday, Feb. 20.

Bangkok (IRE) – Andrew Balding s challenger took a first look at the dirt track on Wednesday with some gentle exercise.
Balding s wife and assistant Anna Lisa said: “He didn t do anything really smart today, the plan is that he will do something a bit quicker on Thursday. He went round the dirt and he seemed to enjoy it, he will wear special plates on Saturday, it should not be an excuse.”

“The great horses like him are what you wake up for every morning,” said Eclipse Award trainer Brad H Cox of Knicks Go who is $3 with Sportsbet for the $20m Saudi Cup on 20 February.
“He’s a fantastic horse and hopefully an international horse by Saturday, with everything going in the right direction. He’s carrying his weight well and I’m happy with the way he’s moving.”
In coming off wins the Pegasus World Cup and Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, winning jockey Joel Rosario will be eyeing the Bob Baffert trained Charlatan who is $2.50 favourite for jockey Mike Smith.

The post positions have been drawn for Saturday s second running of the $20 million Saudi Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. To be contested over a one-turn 1 1/8 mile course on the dirt track, the Saudi Cup drew a field of 14 including a featured American-trained match-up between Grade 1 winners Knicks Go and Charlatan.
Knicks Go, winner of the Breeders Cup Dirt Mile and Pegasus World Cup in his last two outings, drew post five for trainer Brad Cox. The Korea Racing Authority-owned colt will be ridden by Joel Rosario.
“We like it, it s right in the middle,” said Dustin Dugas, assistant trainer. “He s a speed horse, it s a long way till they get to the turn, Joel (Rosario, jockey) will have a lot of ground to work at before he gets to the turn.”
