Tallahassee s Challenger Learning Center is now America s Mission Control for a virtual voyage to Jupiter s most fascinating moon. Tom Flanigan reports that trip is being enjoyed by school kids across the country.
Challenger Learning Center Executive Director Michelle Personette said it all began as the pandemic shut down the facility s regular operations. In March our education staff pivoted. We had to just like every other business had to make changes and adapt. And when we realized our operations were not going to go back to normal in two weeks or a month or whatever, we realized we still had so many more students needed and wanted to serve.
Vote For Bangor Area Non-Profits to Receive $5000
This will be the fifth year that $5000 will be voted on by the people to give one Bangor Area Non-Profit a boost to start the year.
At an annual meeting held by the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce, Machias Savings Bank will be investing $5000 to the Bangor Area Non-Profit that garners the most votes to receive the hefty gift. The announcement will be ZOOMed and be streamed live on Facebook at 3 PM on Thursday, January 28th during the meeting.
Right now you can vote in the first round of voting, which goes through this Friday, January 15th at 5 PM. This will narrow the list down to 20 non-profits for the second round of voting which will go from Tuesdsay, January 19th to Tuesday, January 26th at 5 PM
It will be the only one in Pennsylvania.
The center will bolster the stateâs ongoing STEM education initiatives by providing hands-on, experiential learning opportunities for thousands of students each year. STEM stands for Science Technology Engineering and Math.

âWe are delighted to announce this collaboration with Challenger Center to offer these valuable STEM educational resources,â MCCC President Victoria L. Bastecki-Perez said in a release announcing the project.
In its first year of operation, Challenger Learning Center at Montgomery County Community College hopes to serve approximately 7,000 students in grades five through eight, with at least 50 percent of students from underrepresented and underserved student populations.
