Fatal crash near Smoky Hills Weapons Range

The Kansas National Guard community is mourning this week after one of its own died in a crash Tuesday.
The Saline County Sheriff’s Office was notified at 2:18 p.m. Tuesday of an accident near the Smoky Hills Weapons Range in the 9000 block of West Parsons Road.
Three members of the Kansas National Guard 184th Wing were driving in a Humvee when the vehicle left the road, rolled over and landed on its roof. All inside the vehicle were ejected.
The driver, a 23-year-old male from Salina, and the front passenger, a 28-year-old male from Topeka, were both transported by EMS to Salina Regional Health Center for significant injuries.

A Nebraska woman was injured after an accident on Interstate 135 south of Salina Thursday night.
The Saline County Sheriff s Office said the accident happened around 11:25 p.m. Thursday in the southbound lane of I-135 near mile post 82.
A red 2012 Chevrolet Sonic was struck from behind by a blue 2008 Chevrolet Suburban. The Suburban then went into the ditch.
The sheriff s office said the driver of the Suburban, a 29-year-old from Hooper, Nebraska, believes he fell asleep. His front-seat-passenger, a 27-year-old woman also from Hooper, was not wearing a seatbelt, injured her hand and was transported to Salina Regional Health Center by EMS. There were six children ranging in ages from infant to 9 years old, also in the Suburban, but none of the children where injured.

Leah Jean-Lacher Reay touched many lives with her generosity and enthusiasm before her death in a traffic collision on Jan. 22, 2017. Join the Salina community in remembering Reay by donating blood at the annual American Red Cross blood drive held in her memory May 12 from noon to 6 p.m., at the Temple, 336 S. Santa Fe.
Before moving home to California in 2015, Reay, a 2013 Kansas Wesleyan University Nursing Science graduate, worked for the Salina Regional Health Center and served as a mentor for Salina youth. As a nurse and a regular blood donor, Reay also understood the importance of blood donation.
