Two years ago at age 14, Daniel Ratcliff made a radical decision to change his life. As he entered Monona Grove High School as a freshman, Ratcliff began expressing his true gender identity as a male. Â
âIt was the summer between eighth grade and freshman year,â says Ratcliff. âIt was a new school, new teachers and a new name that better fit me. It was the perfect time.â

As an ecologist, when Tom Brock first visited Yellowstone National Park in the mid 1960’s, he saw the colorful hot springs in a different way than most. He was stunned by the microbes present there that no one seemed to know anything about. His research that followed uncovered a previously unknown characteristic of life the ability for bacteria to live in near-boiling water.
