City Council on Monday approved two contracts for a total of $165,000 to demolish 13 blighted structures, using city discretionary funds to eliminate a chronic backlog of derelict buildings.
The money $103,000 of it from reserves will supplement the city’s regular demolition program, funded by federal Community Development Block Grants, that has never been able to keep up with the pace of new blight.
The ongoing CDBG program funds a two-person in-house crew that will take down five more derelict homes between now and June at a cost of $70,000, so that a total of 18 structures are set to be razed.
Yakima City Council Looks To Change Property Maintenance Codes
A news release from Yakima City Hall says the City Council will consider adopting the 2018 International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC) at the Council meeting on February 2nd.
In the interest of what they say is public health and safety, the City’s Codes Division is asking for the change to the IMPC including local amendments.
Yakima County, Union Gap and Selah already use the IPMC which is described as: The International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC) establishes minimum requirements for the maintenance of existing buildings through model code regulations that contain clear and specific property maintenance and property improvement provisions.
Oak Grove City Council met Tuesday night for a regular meeting to discuss possibly adopting the International Property Maintenance Code as the city’s new property maintenance ordinance.
