Indonesian nuns celebrated the 7th International Day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking by holding interfaith prayers and Eucharistic celebrations on Feb. 8.
The Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace and the International Union of Superiors-General designated the day, the feast day of St. Josephine Bakhita, as an annual day of prayer and awareness against human trafficking.

For economic policies and systems to promote an end to human trafficking, they must care about people, their dignity and working conditions, and they must be regulated in ways that promote social justice, not special interests, Pope Francis said.
An economy without human trafficking will require the courage of patient construction, of planning that does not look always and only at the very short-term gains, but at the medium- and long-term fruits and, above all, at people, he said in a video message marking the International Day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking.
Pope Francis on Monday joined survivors of human trafficking, religious sisters and cardinals in a day of prayer against modern day slavery, calling for a “courageous economy” with market rules that promote justice and bans human trafficking.

Bangladesh joins Vatican network to tackle traffickers
Talitha Kum will help Catholic leaders to combat the scourge of human trafficking across the country
Bangladesh is to step up its fight against human trafficking after joining forces with a Vatican-based group.
The inauguration program of the Talitha Kum international anti-trafficking network in Bangladesh was held at the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Bangladesh Centre in Dhaka on Feb. 8.
The 42 participants included Bishop Gervas Rozario, Catholic leaders and religious congregation superiors. All dioceses of Bangladesh observed the International Day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking on the same day.
