Black Caps leave it late to dismiss Pakistan

Pakistan scored just 82 runs in the first two sessions of the day, and lost five wickets, to go to tea at 112-6, trailing New Zealand s first innings total by 319 runs. Number 8 batsman Faheem Ashraf was the reason Pakistan avoided the follow-on. Faheem made his highest score in Test match cricket but fell just short of a milestone century when he was the last man out on 91. Pakistan s stand-in captain Mohammad Rizwan formed a big partnership with Faheem that saw both players pass the 50-run mark in the evening session.

Williamson century highlight of Black Caps day

Bowler Kyle Jamieson made New Zealand s first breakthrough late in the day to leave Pakistan 30-1 at stumps after the day s play finished under lights. On the morning of day two, captain Kane Williamson plundered Pakistan s bowlers to score his 23rd Test century and shared a 133-run partnership with Henry Nicholls. Both batsmen were out in the first session, Williamson for 129 and Nicholls controversially for 56. Williamson resumed on 94 and took 13 balls, and nearly half an hour, to score his first runs of the day.
