OSCODA â The Oscoda High School (OHS) Interact Club, a service club affiliated with the Oscoda Rotary Club, raised over $1,000 to help eradicate polio from the face of the earth so that it will never come back to cripple another child.Â
The club members did an END POLIO NOW Dollar Drive in the high school and middle school homerooms to raise the money. Their effort will be double matched by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This will enable the vaccination of over 5,000 children.
âThe students wanted to do something to make the world a safer place. We do lots within our community, but we wanted to do something with global impact,â said Interact President Sophia Rayes.
Seeing all the flags united together made me feel that scouting could change the world. It’s not every day you can walk from tent to tent and enter a different country to learn about their lives.” Throughout the event the scouts have the opportunity to take part in hundreds of activities focused on discovering new cultures, the environment, sustainable development and global issues. Chris Broadway, 15, from Winchester said: “We’re making a real impact to the local and international community by getting involved in some great projects. But as well as this We’re making new friends, and taking part in loads of exciting outdoor activities too. I’m most looking forward to getting out on the water. Scouting rocks”
