LETTER | The mandatory retirement age for the superior court judges in Malaysia is 66 years with a possible extension of six months as laid down in Article 125(1) of the Federal Constitution.
A judge may however resign from his office at any time by writing under his hand to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Except as above, a superior court judge cannot be removed from office other than for the grounds stated in article 125(3), namely when he has violated any provision of the code of ethics prescribed under clause (3B) or on the ground of inability, from infirmity of body or mind or any other cause, properly to discharge the functions of his office.
PETALING JAYA: University students have started making their way back to their respective hometowns for Hari Raya, with strict compliance to standard operating procedure (SOP).
Universiti Putra Malaysia Muhammad student representative Farhan Roslan said he had limited his movement in and out of the campus – especially to crowded places such as Ramadan bazaars – before travelling home.
He said those who previously returned to UPM in March had to go through a 10-day isolation period, which would have created a safe community within the campus.
The 24-year-old said he was determined to stay inside his social bubble to avoid posing a risk to his community back home.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah have expressed condolences to the family Melor assemblyman Dr Md Yusnan Yusof who died today at the age of 53.
Their Majesties also expressed their sadness over Md Yusnan’s passing and hoped his family would remain patient and strong in facing this moment of grief.
KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Negara has appointed Abd. Rahman Abu Bakar as assistant governor effective May 1.
In a statement Friday, the central bank said Abd. Rahman would oversee the areas of human capital which include strategic human capital, human capital development and human capital services.
Abd. Rahman joined Bank Negara in 1992. He has served various departments in the bank, including financial intelligence and enforcement, special investigation, insurance regulation, strategic planning, human resource management and economics.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the International Islamic University Malaysia.
Abd. Rahman succeeds Mohd Adhari Belal Din, who is leaving the bank on May 11 following 14 years of service.
