Math whiz emerges champion at 23rd PMO

Philippine Mathematical Olympiad (PMO) winners. (DOST-SEI) The Department of Science and Technology’s Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) extended its felicitations to Sanchez who earned the PMO’s top title for three consecutive years after besting over two dozen other finalists. “Bryce’s achievement is all the more notable and exemplary given the challenges that everyone most especially students like him and his fellow competitors have had to face over the past year,” DOST SEI Director Josette Biyo said in a statement. The DOST-SEI also congratulated Steven Reyes of Saint Jude Catholic School and Raphael Dylan Dalida of Philippine Science High School – Main Campus, who are both Grade 12 students, for winning first and second runners-up at the PMO.

10 students qualify for  national physics competition,

Ten Alachua County Public Schools students qualified this year for the United States of America Physics Olympiad (USAPhO) out of just 13 public and private high school students statewide. Eight students attend Buchholz High School, which had the third-highest number of qualifiers in the nation this year, and two Eastside High School students also qualified. To qualify for the USAPhO, the students were among top scorers in the nation on a challenging exam called the F=ma, a 75-minute test with 25 questions focused on algebra-based mechanics. In the country, 333 of the highest-scoring students are now eligible to take another grueling exam covering a variety of physics-related topics, including mechanics, thermodynamics, relativity and nuclear physics.
