Today in Music History - Feb. 22 The Canadian Press 2021-02-22 Today in Music History for Feb. 22:   In 1952, bass singer Don Gerrard, a native of Vancouver, made his debut with the Canadian Opera Company as the Speaker in The Magic Flute.  He moved to England in 1961 to become principal bass of the Sadler s Wells company, but continued to return to Canada to perform. In 1965, The Beatles began filming Help, their second movie, in the Bahamas. Other scenes were shot in England and Austria. The film opened in North America in August. In 1969, British glitter-rock band T. Rex kicked off a British tour in Manchester. On the same bill, David Bowie, a friend of T. Rex leader Marc Bolan, performed a mime act about Tibetan Buddhist monks.

Courtney Marie Andrews debuts new cover of Simon & Garfunkel s America

  Article Contributed by Sacks and Company | Published on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 Courtney Marie Andrews’ new cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “America,” performed with fellow artists Liz Cooper and Molly Sarlé, is out today. Listen/share HERE. Andrews, Cooper and Sarlé originally recorded the song as a contribution to Good Music to Avert the Collapse of American Democracy Vol. 2 a special compilation album released earlier this fall with proceeds benefitting Voting Rights Lab, a non-partisan organization fighting for fair voting rights. Of the collaboration, Andrews shares, “This song is a beautiful novella of a certain place in time that stirs our emotions. While we were all at a writer’s retreat, we decided to sing harmony on it, to bring us closer together and reminisce over that free feeling of travel and love.”

at 12:28PM The Americana Music Association UK (AMA-UK) has announced the full line-up of performers and events for its first virtual AmericanaFest UK, to be held between January 26 – 28, 2021.  The UK Americana Awards ceremony on January 28 will include unique performances from: American Aquarium, Emily Barker, Elvis Costello, Steve Earle, Mary Gauthier, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, and a host of other nominees.  The event will be presented by Bob Harris OBE, and feature appearances from Colin Firth CBE, BBC Radio 2’s Johnnie Walker, BBC Radio 6 s Steve Lamacq, Fleetwood Mac s Christine McVie, and an In Conversation with Mavis Staples and former AMA-UK award winner Brandi Carlile.
