Top Aluminum-producing Countries | China is First

What are the top aluminum-producing countries? China’s output was the highest by far in 2020. Aluminum is an important industrial metal used in a wide range of applications and considered a critical metal to economies around the world. Aluminum is one of the Earth’s most abundant metals and is produced from cryolite and bauxite mining. This is because the two minerals are large sources of aluminum; bauxite is processed to create alumina, which is then refined to create aluminum. Aluminum is one of the most in-demand industrial metals because it is extremely versatile. The silvery metal is non-toxic and lightweight, perfect for making food and beverage cans; it also has a high thermal conductivity, is corrosion resistant and can be easily cast, machined and formed.

Consumer demand for sustainable packaging holds despite pandemic

Dive Brief: Two-thirds (67%) of consumers consider it important that the products they buy are in recyclable packaging, and the same percentage consider themselves environmentally aware the same share as before the pandemic, according to Trivium Packaging’s 2021 Global Buying Green Report. The report is based on a survey conducted with Boston Consulting Group with 15,000 consumers in Europe, North America and South America.  More than half (54%) take sustainable packaging into consideration when selecting a product. Younger consumers  those 44 years and younger   are leading the charge, with 83% reporting that they are willing to pay more for it, compared to 70% of all consumers. However, the pandemic has caused about one in three consumers to lower the importance they place on sustainable packaging.

REUTERS/Aly Song/File Photo Read More Shanghai aluminium prices last week hit their highest since 2010 as the Chinese market gears up for a seasonal demand peak. The Shanghai Futures Exchange (ShFE) aluminium contract continues to outperform international prices amid high volumes and open interest with no sign that anyone is being scared off by the increasingly strident official warnings about speculative heat in the country’s commodity markets. The London Metal Exchange (LME) three-month aluminium price has also been on an upwards charge, hitting a fresh year-to-date high of $2,369.50 on Wednesday, but is still some way off its 2018 peak of $2,718 per tonne.

Global aluminium production to push higher before long – CE

4/20/2021 11:42:13 AM GMT | By FXStreet Insights Team Daily aluminium production dropped back a bit in March. But with prices currently at multi-year highs, and only very piecemeal restrictions on output in China, economists at Capital Economics doubt it will be long before daily aluminium production starts to creep higher again. Outside of China, the decline in daily production is a departure from the trend increase since the middle of last year “According to the International Aluminium Institute (IAI), global aluminium production grew by 5.0% YoY in March. However, given the virus-related disruption to output last year, we think the monthly change in daily production offers a better steer on the underlying trend. Here, we find that daily production in March both in and outside of China was a little lower than in February.”
