Anticipating a crowd opposing another truck stop on Sardis Church Road, the Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission moved Monday’s hearing to Commission Chambers at Government Center.
Although the space allowed for social distancing due to COVID-19, a sheriff’s deputy kept a watchful eye on the headcount as about a dozen masked residents signed in to speak against the project.

A 24-year-old Monroeville man died Saturday morning of injuries he suffered in a motorcycle crash Saturday in Murrysville.
The Westmoreland County Coroner identified the man as Robert S. Mahan.
According to Murrysville police, Mahan was headed south on Sardis Road near Cal-Ken Court about 12:45 a.m. when his motorcycle collided with another vehicle.
Westmoreland County Coroner Kenneth A. Bacha identified the driver as Robert S. Mahan, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, Bacha said.

MACON, Ga. Neighbors of Macon near Sardis Road are making their voices heard when it comes to a new proposed truck stop.
Tom and Shelley Stahl hear the loud noise of big trucks everyday as they come in and out of the truck stop nearby. We can hear cars on the freeway some, but they re basically at constant speed, they aren t revving engines, they re just driving, and that s not a concern, but when you have the big trucks gearing up and gearing down to go into the truck stop. that s noticeable, Tom Stahl said.
