Housing, plaza, offices planned for White Spot site on Douglas

“We see it as an opportunity to continue our investments in downtown Victoria,” Chard said. “It would be our intent to redevelop it and create a diversity of housing and employment opportunities.” The official community plan includes a target for a “quite a large plaza for the site, which we are looking to incorporate into our design,” Chard said. He envisions a mixture of employment from retail to offices and other opportunities, but is not being more specific. Chard Development is in discussions with several groups around what is needed in that part of town, he said. The pending sale comes as the White Spot at 710 Caledonia Ave. closed permanently after about 50 years in that location.

Construction complete on middle-income condo tower in Victoria

VICTORIA Construction is now complete on a new 20-storey condo tower in downtown Victoria. The Vivid at the Yates building, located at 845 Johnson St., was constructed with a $53-million low-interest loan from the province to developer Chard Development. The building will provide 135 units of below-market housing, with an average household income of just over $60,000, the province said Monday. Affordable housing for middle-income British Columbians is a priority for our government, and this pilot project is one example of the important work that can be done in partnership with the private sector to achieve that goal, said David Eby, Attorney General and Minister Responsible for Housing, in a statement.

New unique condo development offers true indoor-outdoor living

Photograph By Joshua Lawrence. A new boutique condominium development in Victoria is incorporating lessons learned during this past year into its design. NEST by Chard offers brand-new one, two and three bedroom condos located at the corner of Cook and Yates. “These homes were designed with livability in mind, with ample outdoor space and air conditioning,” Chard Development’s president and CEO, Byron Chard says. “Our goal was to ensure that whether you’re working from home or looking for a breath of fresh air, you’re comfortable at NEST.”  The boutique 12-storey building offers only 107 suites in a variety of well-designed floor plans with smart, modern finishes and oversized balconies.
