The marquees at Portsmouth schools have gotten a little more bold lately, trading competitive messages back and forth.
Friendly, in-person school rivalries are one of the things that were lost to the pandemic.
Churchland High School’s principal Shawn Millaci wanted to find a way to recapture that and the connection it creates in each school building and across the city.

Virginia high school junior achieves almost-perfect SAT score while learning only virtually

PORTSMOUTH, Va. Marshall Taylor, a junior at Churchland High School, is going to be the first in his family to go to college. He already completed one step to get there - scoring an almost perfect score on the SAT exam. I plan to go to the University of Virginia, and I want to be a physics major,â Taylor said.
This is a big deal not just for him, but for his entire family. Iâll be a first-generation college student,â Taylor said. âA big weight to bear being the first person going to college.
