The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) implemented a new regulation permitting low-volume automobile manufacturers to construct and sell limited numbers of replica vehicles, subject to intellectual property, safety, and configuration requirements.
Background
Since 2011, the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) and other industry entities have pressured Congress for exemptions allowing small companies to produce and sell a limited number of replica vehicles. These efforts culminated in the passage of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST) in 2015, which created an exemption for low-volume automakers to construct and sell up to 325 replica vehicles in the U.S. each year subject to regulatory oversight. The Act defines replica vehicles as motor vehicles that resemble cars produced 25 years ago or more.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation will be posting signs at 21 structures located on and directly adjacent to Interstates 90, 29, 229, and 190 due to a federal requirement. SDDOT says that new signage will be placed by April 30, 2021 to indicate the structures are now posted for Emergency Vehicle (EV) weight limits.
âSDDOT staff has reached out to emergency providers in the immediate vicinity of these structures to inform them of the new emergency vehicle weight restrictions,â said Michael Behm, Planning & Engineering Division Director. âBy working with our providers prior to sign installation, it should minimize any potential impact to response time.â
The Fixing Americaâs Surface Transportation (FAST) Act requires all states to review structural capacity for very large vehicles which are used under emergency situations to transport personnel and equipment to support the suppression of fires and mitigation of other hazardous situations.
I’ve walked by the many interesting buildings on MIT’s campus countless times, and each time I pass by, I can’t help but wonder how each was planned and if there will be more buildings like them. They are so creative that it makes me wonder how the buildings were constructed and how they look on the inside. With spring here, it means I’ll probably start walking around there again on sunny days and after attending the MIT Campus Art and Landscape Virtual Tour at Boston Design Week, I think I’ll gain a deeper appreciation for these buildings. This week, I have compiled a list that brings together so many different interests from the aforementioned design week to a program for kids, an online conversation about a coming-of-age memoir to a virtual journey through beauty standards.
