SARANAC LAKE â The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Committee has released two different buttons for this yearâs Carnival, designed as always by Doonesbury cartoonist Garry Trudeau.
Using the Winter Carnivalâs designated theme âMask-eradeâ â although the button spells it the standard way, âMasqueradeâ â Trudeauâs illustrations show six Doonesbury characters, three on each button, wearing a variety of masks.
Mike Doonesburyâs mask features pine cones, BDâs has a skier, Boopsieâs has a bunny, Joanieâs has Hudson Bay blanket colors (green, red, yellow and indigo on a white background), Uncle Dukeâs has a hole for his cigarette holder, and Zonker wears a snowflake mask over his eyes.
