ROLLOUT of the Covid vaccine is now underway in north Oxford with hundreds of jabs being delivered from a school gym. Patients who have been shielding since March were among the first to get the Pfizer vaccine yesterday as part of work by Summertown Health Centre, 19 Beaumont Street Surgery and Banbury Road Medical Centre. The surgeries are also expecting to start delivering the Oxford vaccine at care homes in the city from Monday as part of accelerating efforts to protect the most vulnerable. Dr John Monach, co-clinical director of the primary care network (PCN) which encompasses the three surgeries, said staff were extremely excited to finally be vaccinating patients at Cherwell School after things got off to a false start last month.

Oxbotica test a vehicle Picture: Oxford Images: Malcolm Griffiths Oxforshire-based Oxbotica, a global leader in autonomous vehicle software, has announced the completion of $47 million of investment from partners across the globe. Last year Europe’s leading self-driving vehicle software company, which started out in Summertown, moved into a special facility at Culham Science Centre. The company signed a 10-year lease at the connected and autonomous vehicle (CAV) building for one of Pit Lane’s workspaces with offices above, totalling 2,377 sq ft. This provided Oxbotica’s engineers with the opportunity to work on vehicles in the garage while also analysing huge quantities of data generated from the vehicles.
THIS had all the makings of being a vintage year for the arts in Oxfordshire. Impressive programmes of plays, shows, gigs and concerts, visits by international stars, the return of popular events and even a clutch of new festivals, was set to make 2020 a year to remember. While that proved true, it was for all the wrong reasons. The arts sector was among the first to be hit by the coronavirus pandemic and the hardest hit. Many venues which closed their doors in March are still closed and have no idea when they will be realistically able to reopen. And while productions, events and festivals have been rescheduled, there is still unease over how – or even if – they will go ahead.
