Dangote investing more for peace in Nigeria

Mon Apr 26 2021 President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has invested enormously in peace and security in Nigeria, said a security expert and academic, Dr Adeola Adams. Dr Adeola, who is a scholar in Peace Studies and the secretary general of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), spoke at a seminar in Abuja at the weekend. According to a statement from Dangote Group, at a lecture titled: ‘Multi Track Diplomacy: A System Approach to Peace in Nigeria’, Adeola said Dangote companies have created thousands of jobs for Nigerians and Africans which is key to peace and stability. The group has been supporting government and security agencies with operational facilities.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the society’s president, Dr Nathaniel Danjibo and secretary-general, Dr Adeola Adams, which was read at the induction of the society’s new members, at Ijebu-Ode.

UK sidesteps query on LTTE cadres, Adele living there

Global Justice Forum (GJF) representing civil society groups based in UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand-all member States of the Commonwealth, in addition to Israel, UAE and Switzerland has raised the continuing presence of those responsible for terrorism receiving privilege status at a time the UK was pushing for new resolution in respect of Sri Lanka at the Geneva-based United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). A spokesperson for GJF told The Island that the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, in its response to their appeal dated January 8, 2021, refrained from commenting on the continuing presence of LTTE cadres therein.

Service chiefs: CSO carpets Garba Shehu for defending exclusion of Igbos in appointments

Shehu A civil society organisation with deep interest in the country’s democratic growth has taken a swipe at the statement credited to the Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, to the effect that appointment of service chiefs was carried out by President Muhammadu Buhari devoid of ethnic consideration. The group,under the aegis of Conference of Nigeria civil Society for Peace and Security, said it was disappointed in Mr Shehu’s statement, saying his justification of the exclusion of the Igbos from the appointments was not only insensitive but also irresponsible of him.
